"The Legia research and development centre is a crucial project for Polish football. The training centre gives up-and-coming talents the opportunity to train under the same conditions as their international colleagues. It will also take talent development to the next level", said Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR. "We are proud of the integral design skills we apply on complex large-scale projects as well as our comprehensive experience from the operating business and look forward to applying them in full when realising this project".
The works on the plot in Książenice got underway in April 2019. The construction site was prepared, the drainage system set up and the area which will later house the football pitches was levelled off. What's more, work has already begun on removing the topsoil. The next step involves excavation works for the main building.
State-of-the-art training facility for pros and tomorrow's talent
The design of the Legia training centre is the result of far-reaching needs analyses from around 30 training sites throughout the whole of Europe. The training area will consist of six pitches in total, of which five will be with natural grass and one will be an artificial pitch with an overhead roof. The main building will comprise a sports hall, training rooms, leisure and fitness equipment, and accommodation for the players, as well as an area that can serve as a research and development centre. In addition to an area that can only be accessed by teams and staff, the grounds will also have a space to welcome fans and guests.
