A single-carriageway section of a GP class road (main road for accelerated traffic), 13.3 km long, will be built along the DK22 road on the eastern side of Wałcz. As part of the task, PORR will build, among others: two bridges, a crossing for cyclists under the route, a viaduct over the railway line, and six roundabouts. The under construction bypass will connect to the existing one thanks to a new junction that will be constructed along the S10 road. The new route will bypass the town of Strączno, located southwest of Wałcz.
The investment will separate transit traffic from local traffic. Drivers traveling on a longer section of the national road will be able to bypass Wałcz, and thus cover the route faster and more comfortably. Traffic in the city will decrease, noise and air pollution levels will drop, and safety will improve.
According to the schedule, design works will last 10 months, the waiting time for a permit for the implementation of the road investment will last 7 months, and construction works, excluding winter breaks, will last 22 months. This means that drivers will use the new route in the third quarter of 2028.
