To complete its task, PORR will build the, geograpically speaking, ‘first’ section of expressway S19 whose mileage is to be counted from Poland’s border with Belarus, in Kuźnica. The investment project will be developed as a Design & Build Project. It covers the construction of more than 15 kilometers of a new route consisting of a 5.25-km-long section of national road DK19 running from the border crossing to interchange Kuźnica, and a 10.55-km-long section of expressway S19 running from interchange Kuźnica to interchange Sokółka Północ. The route will run past Kuźnica in the north, whereby transit traffic from and to the border crossing will be diverted out of the town.
The new road will have two carriageways, with two lanes going in both directions, plus an emergency lane and a median strip. At the border crossing, six lanes will be built – two at the entrance and four at the exit from Poland. Two rest areas will be constructed – in Popławka and Wojnówka. The scope of the investment project also covers the execution of two road interchanges - Kuźnica and Sokółka Północ - and the construction of 12 engineering structures, among others a bridge ad a railway viaduct.
Construction works will begin immediately after receiving the decision permitting the execution of the road investment (ZRID), which is planned to happen in Q3 of 2022.
An important section of Via Carpathia
In the podlaskie voivodeship, road S19 will start at the Belarusian border in Kuźnica and run to Chlebczyn, which lies at the border between the mazowieckie and lubelskie voivodeships. The Podlachian section of that route, ca. 175 km, will be put into service in 2025. The whole S19 route – a road stretch of 570 km in total – will be the most important part of the international Via Carpathia route.
