PORR & Mota-Engil consortium’s S1 contract worth almost PLN 1 bn

Warsaw, 14.05.2020 – A consortium of PORR S.A. (leader) and Mota-Engil Central Europe S.A. has signed a contract with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways for designing and building the 15-km long S1 express road section from Oświęcim to Dankowice. It is the longest of the three sections planned to be built as part of the new S1 section between Mysłowice and Bielsko-Biała. The contract is worth PLN 989.7 m (ca. EUR 217 m).

The task entrusted to the consortium consisting of PORR and Mota-Engil Central Europe covers the design and construction of a dual carriageway express road with a bitumastic pavement with two lanes in each direction and space reserved for a third lane (in the central reserve) with a total length of 15.165 km. The new road will be equipped with Rest and Service Areas (MPO), devices for road traffic safety, environmental protection, dewatering systems and road lighting. Three new intersections will be built on the road – Oświęcim, Wola, Brzeszcze. The contract also provides for the construction of roads running parallel to the express road and providing services to adjacent areas.

Works are expected to take 33 months (without the winter periods). Road works will begin in the third quarter of the year 2021. It is planned to complete the project in the third quarter of the year 2023.

The contract for the road section from Oświęcim to Dankowice represents the first resolved tender out of three published by GDDKiA’s office in Katowice for the construction of the S1 express road running from interchange Kosztowy II in Mysłowice to interchange Suchy Potok in Bielsko-Biała. This 40-km long part is the longest of the S1 sections planned to be built or rebuilt.

„Together with Mota-Engil Central Europe we will do our part to build the new S1 express road section between Mysłowice and Bielsko-Biała. The one emerging along a new route is not only of importance for the Silesian aglomeration, but also, as part of an eventually almost 140-km long express road, for the whole international transport”, said PORR S.A. CEO Piotr Kledzik.
