Over 30 months, PORR S.A. will carry out the task entitled “Flood control and reaching a favourable water balance in the Central Oder region - backflow for the Malczyce barrage” for the State Water Management Authority Wody Polskie. The main objective of the contract is to improve flood protection in the Central Oder region by stopping erosion processes in the riverbed, modernising the embankments and adapting them to current safety parameters. In addition, to improve navigational conditions on the Oder Waterway section, works will be carried out to raise the level of permitted water lifting to ensure proper operation of environmental facilities and to protect the left and right bank areas located above the Malczyce barrage from the possible effects of water lifting.
The project, worth over PLN 125 million, is expected to result in counteracting the effects of drought and increasing the production of electricity from RES as well as improving the recreational use of the river, including the development of tourist marinas, shipyards and river ports.
